G14 Amplifier

amp-bg.png

The amp is all about feel and dynamics, it excels at transitioning from clean to dirty via playing dynamics. It is not a high-gain amp (although it will sing when fed with a treble booster or overdrive).  It is suited for just over the edge of breakup sounds.

The controls I have included are all to do with shaping drive.

There is a mid-circuit which when turned all the way down will provide a mid scoop and a cleaner sound, when turned up it will thicken up and drive the amp harder.  A bass control also cuts low frequencies when turned counter-clockwise and boosts them when turned clockwise.

All this happens before drive so the bass control acts more like a tightness control. The more bass cut before the overdrive, the tighter and crisper the sound will be as the overdrive is shifted to the treble frequencies.  A lot of bass pre-drive will create a looser bluesy feel, or just turn all the knobs up for the all-out drive.

The simplicity of the design and functionality of our amplifiers means an incredibly dynamic and honest sound is easily achievable with just three dials.

My fascination for making things started with guitars moved onto pedals and then finally I discovered valve amps.

Years of experimentation later I started Simpson Amplification.
I am a one-man operation, I hand wire all of my amps in the UK.

My circuits are original designs and I am not trying to replicate any specific era or models of amplifier design.

I am simply interested in tone.

Great for Recording.  Pure Tone.

I have been using this amp in my studio for a number of years now and its honest sound makes it a great recording amp.  The way Ben has designed the amp gives it a very controllable and balanced tone.

The Simpson have I have is unique in many ways but one that especially stands out is how I can set it up to be incredibly dynamic in terms of gain while sagging (compressing) in a wonderfully clean way which makes the notes pretty much the same volume.  This makes for an incredibly expressive playing experience and is a complete dream to record.  No other amp I have (and I have most of them) comes close to this.

Good morning from LA!  The Simpson amp model that I had the pleasure of playing at Tom Dixons Studio had tone like Rock N’ Roll Buttah! Without the use of pedals I was able to reach all the creamy classic and dirty tones I would ever want.  The amp reacts to pedals very well!  Not only was the tone supreme the look was a dreamy white finish!  I can’t wait to have a couple of these rockers in my home soon!!
